After a Yoruban priest blessed Yerdle’s new San Francisco office on Earth Day, he asked the assembled employees and friends of the tech startup to suggest words that came to mind.
No one mentioned revenue, profits or IPO, even though the 10-person company had just scored $5 million in new venture funding on top of an initial $1.7 million in seed funding when it started 18 months ago. Instead, love and need floated through the air.
Yerdle, an online marketplace where people can give and get used stuff for free, sounds like a modest entry in the sharing economy, the technology sector that helps people rent, sell or swap resources.
