Yerdle Uses Tech to Give Old Stuff New Light

After a Yoruban priest blessed Yerdle’s new San Fran­cis­co office on Earth Day, he asked the assem­bled employ­ees and friends of the tech start­up to sug­gest words that came to mind.

No one men­tioned rev­enue, prof­its or IPO, even though the 10-per­son com­pa­ny had just scored $5 mil­lion in new ven­ture fund­ing on top of an ini­tial $1.7 mil­lion in seed fund­ing when it start­ed 18 months ago. Instead, love and need float­ed through the air.

Yer­dle, an online mar­ket­place where peo­ple can give and get used stuff for free, sounds like a mod­est entry in the shar­ing econ­o­my, the tech­nol­o­gy sec­tor that helps peo­ple rent, sell or swap resources.
